Health and social care

One of the themes the Scottish COVID-19 Inquiry is using to approach its investigations and hearings is health and social care. The thematic approach seeks to bring the experiences of people in Scotland to the forefront of our investigations, ensuring the human impact of the pandemic is captured.

Hearings

On 28 August 2023, the Inquiry held a preliminary hearing on health and social care. During the hearing, Lord Brailsford, Chair of the Inquiry outlined the practical and procedural matters relevant to the Inquiry and its participants, such as timescales for hearings.

Health and social care impact hearings began on 24 October 2023 and were completed on 28 June 2024. More information about these hearings and broadcasts of each session are available via the Hearings Hub.

The Inquiry has published a Restriction Order pertaining to health and social care.

 

Groups granted core participant status regarding health and social care issues were invited to an Inquiry Planning Meeting with the Chair and senior legal team in late April/early May.

 

The Chair of the Inquiry has issued Directions regarding the submission of opening statements for the Hearing on the impacts of Health and Social Care commencing on 24 October 2023.

Directions on the submission of closing statements relative to Health and Social Care Impact Hearings have now been published.
